Hello World! |
Since I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, I combined a couple images I found online to make some new lock screen wallpapers for my iPhone 4s. Figured I'd put it out there for others to download as well.
Listening to Oscar Pistorious (aka Blade Runner) is always inspiring. The South African native was born with a medical condition that required both of his legs to be amputated below the knee at 11 months old, but despite this disability, he has managed to earn the distinction of the "fastest man on no legs." I had already heard much of his story when he spoke at Oakley HQ a few months back, but I'm just amazed at how many sports he participated in as a teen. The man is incredibly humble and is always a pleasure to listen to.
One of my favorite stories was the one he told about his mother. She had gone to 12 different doctors and based on reputation and accomplishments narrowed the list down to the top 3 to perform the procedure on Oscar. However, one of them had indicated they should just amputate at the knee since he "wouldn't be able to use it anyway" which kind of infuriated her. Needlesstosay, they didn't go with this "expert" but after she received his bill for consultation services (which she paid), she sent him a bill back for her own "expert" consultation on the topic of her son's condition.
After his speech a bunch of us from Oakley went out to dinner with him and I found out he is a big auto enthusiast. No surprise the man likes speed, but it was awesome to hear about his love for his Bimmers (135, E46 M3, E92 M3), Mini, and Porches. His favorite right now is his heavily customized 135.
He's close to his quest to be able to compete in the 2012 London Olympics (against "able-bodied" athletes). Hope he makes it!

After a long search for somebody, anybody who makes a halfway-decent quality Carbon Fiber kidney, I decided I would go with the OEM ones from BMW Performance. They’re not CF, but these M3 Edition kidneys are the same ones used on the GTS, so needlesstosay, the quality is far and away superior to any aftermarket parts out there. I made the decision after the nice folks at IND Distribution (thanks, Nate!) were kind enough to be upfront about the fact that even the CF versions they sold weren’t any better quality than any of the other ones that come from the same manufacturer in Asia. Honesty and customer service always win me over, so they got my business (and will continue to do so).
Below are some comparisons between the quality (if you can even call it a comparison). Granted, the aftermarket ones are 2 years old, but you can still see the craftsmanship difference. For comparison sake, here’s a shot of the aftermarket ones when they were new.
One nice little perk from IND, these shipped wrapped in a couple of micro fiber cloths. Been needing to get some more of those, but now I don’t have to. Thank you, IND for the great service.
The Venom GT was clearly the star of the show, but there were tons of other great cars as well. Lots of Vipers (of course, it’s Hennessey), Camaros, Ford GT’s, etc.
American Cars:
European Cars (I want that Ferrari so bad):
I have no idea what this was, but it was pretty cool:
There were a ton of Camaros which I didn’t take too many pictures of, but these two details caught my eye: A yellow & black one that had a Hot Wheel mounted on the dash (same color of course), and the black on black Hennessey badge was pretty cool.
And finally, a few more shots of the Hennessey Venom GT:
What an amazing car. The seats seem like they are about 4 inches off the ground! There was also a beautiful Hennessey Ford GT here, along with a Caddy and Camaro, but clearly the Venom stole the show. I couldn't really even get myself to look at the other cars.
Looks like this will now be available in Fall 2011.
It felt pretty secure when I stuck it on the nice flat surface behind my rearview mirror, but after driving for a few minutes, gravity and wiggling took it's toll. This was the result. A nice little chunk taken out of my center console when it decided to fall. Grrrrrr.
